Boundless the cedifop course for underwater technical operator

Become more and more international the courses of the CEDIFOP in Palermo.
There is also a foreigner, a Croatian citizen, among the eighteen students that from February 15 participate at the lessons to get the certificate that will give them the qualification of OTS, specialized underwater technical operator.
The CEDIFOP, the centre studies directed by Manos Kouvakis, is one of the few institutes of professional formation that are cleared to release to its own students such document, without which the divers cannot enrol in the special register of the harbour-office and cannot operate then in port waters or to develop professional activity.
The new students, Tomislav Vundac  says “he is almost 26 years old and was born to Zadar in Croazia. From six years, he is  shuttling between Italy and his Country native: "This is my sixth season - it tells -. I work in a tonnara in Milazzo, but for some months of the year I return in Croazia and I work also there". The Croatian boy has not come alone to the CEDIFOP. With him there are other three operators coming from the same tonnara. They are all messinesi: Joseph La Monaca, Lo Vecchio Stellario and Matteo Trazzi. Class 1954, Trazzi is the veteran of the group of aspirant OTS: "In the tonnara we deal with various duties, as for instance of the assemblage of the cages where the tunas are raised - it tells us -. we are here in agree with our firm to have a formation to assure us the best safety conditions during the job."
The group can count then on other students that arrive from all the zones of Italy. it Originates from the Piedmont Claudio Rosina, that is occupied only till now of sporting scuba diver, while lombardis are Thomas Berera and Alexander Boselli, that however alive to Saint Teresa Gallura, in Sardinia. And from the Sardinian island a fed group of divers arrives, composed by Cristian Crobe, Savior Manias, Vinicio Mei and Carlo Tocco. Calabrians are instead Domenico Alessandro Canale and Rocco Salerno.
The other students of the CEDIFOP are all Sicilians: I am Rocco Di Fede, Savior Grammatico, Doriano Pinto, Calogero Saito and Giovanni Sanfilippo.
The course of the CEDIFOP, the first one of 2008, will conclude him next 21 May. For info www.cedifop.it

The industrial underwater:technology, formation, work
(CEDIFOP meet  the students of the linguistic school "Ninni Cassarà of Palermo )

In the program of the project "A sea... of resources", organized by the Provincial institute of Culture and Languages "Ninni Cassarà" of Palermo and patronized by the Office of the Public education, Thursday March 27 th, in the branch of street Factors, it  turns a meeting among the students of the classes participants and a representation of teachers and students of the CEDIFOP, centre studies specialized in the formation of OTS - Underwater Technical Operators. Through interventions and projections of video and images, the formative run, the working opportunities, the characteristics of the equipment and the technology has been described used by the industrial divers, underlining before particularly the importance of the safety procedures and during every job and exercise.
In the opening intervention of, francesco Costantino, one of the instructors of the CEDIFOP, has explained the differences among industrial scuba diver (the sector of the OTSs) and sporting. If it is true that the first contact with the scuba diver for many happens through the sporting or recreational activity, the two sectors are clearly outdistanced when he passes to the examination of the finalities of the in demand technical knowledge and of the necessary equipment. Unlike the sportsman, that for instance dips him counting only on the endowment of the cylinders, the OTS during job it belongs to a team and it is physically connected to a posting of control in surface with an umbilical cable, from which it passes the supply of air, the communications telephone, and other functionalities among which - in the most advanced versions - that for the lighthouse and the video camera.
The terminal of the umbilical cable is the helmet Kirby-Morgan. It has a design similar to that of an astronaut and the articulation of the components it is indicative of the environmental difficulties in which can be to operate an OTS. To work to a lot of about ten meters deep, in turbid waters, to low temperatures, they are extreme conditions that can have to face. But, as it has been repeated during the conference, the job from OTS it doesn't ask for ability sovrumane. The interventions that has called to develop (from the survey of sunk wreckages, to the welding of pipes, to the measurements of depth to scientific use, etc.) they ask above all for technical preparation and knowledge of the procedures.
The CEDIFOP has brought in the classroom the standard equipment of an OTS and the students have been able to directly try the functionality of the Kirby-Morgan connected to the control panel. Some have also worn a diver helmet. If to the appearance could seem few less than a piece of antiquaries, must be specified that it is still instead used particularly in the immersions in the seas of the North. And' is alone one of the news that has incuriosity the students, I surprised by to learn that a diver wears an equipment whose hangs can reach the one hundred kilograms. On last December 7, during an exercise of the students of the CEDIFOP, an open helmet has been experimented conceived by Alberto Gasperin, president of Palombarus srl, and planned by Maurice Masucci. The technological evolution of the diver helmet, from the first ones of the Nine hundred to today, and of the helmet Kirby-Morgan has appeared evident from the images of the various models.
In the second part of the meeting a turned video has been projected last October during a visit of the CEDIFOP near the tonnara it Fishes Blue of Milazzo. One of the students of the form in progress (February-May 2008), already dependent of the same firm messinese, has explained what in this professional context are the assignments of an OTS and as the breeding of the red tuna he develops, to a large extent then sold on the Japanese market and turned into sushi. That of the industrial scuba diver is one of the sectors with greater applications of specialized personnel today. The evolution shows in the progress of the CEDIFOP, to which participate students coming from Italy and, recently, also from the foreign countries. At the conclusion of the conference the students have received a certificate of share. For them it deals with a formative run that allows him, from Sicilians, to approach to a patrimony of history and culture to reaffirm
